Which course do I need — EFAW or FAW?
It depends on your first aid needs assessment, which every employer should carry out. This looks at things like the type of work you do, the hazards involved, how many people you employ, shift patterns and how far you are from emergency services. Lower-risk workplaces may find Emergency First Aid at Work is enough, while higher-risk workplaces or larger teams are more likely to need First Aid at Work. The HSE publishes guidance to help, and we're happy to talk it through with you.
How many first aiders do we need?
There's no single number for every business. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) asks employers to decide based on their needs assessment — considering the size of the workforce, the level of risk, shift work, holidays and absences, and whether staff work alone or at different sites. Cover should be available whenever people are at work.
Where is the training held?
At your workplace. We bring the training equipment; you just need a suitable room with enough space for practical work and seating for the group.
How many people can attend?
Up to 12 learners per course, which keeps the sessions practical with plenty of hands-on time for everyone.
How long do certificates last?
EFAW and FAW certificates are valid for 3 years. To stay qualified, first aiders should requalify before their certificate expires. The HSE also recommends annual refresher training to keep skills fresh in between.
Can you work around our shifts?
